The Croft, Malton, North Yorkshire, England

When beginning this project we had group discussions on what the community members thought was important to our community. Many people mentioned recent changes, the continued support they receive and the new friends they have made.

To signify the change we found an old weaving on a frame, which had been started with the image of some hills which worked rather well as we are so close to the Yorkshire moors. We thought this would look great as a completed piece to encapsulate the transition of the old into the new. A sunrise over the hills was mentioned as a great way of capturing this change. One community member said "a new dawn" which we decided would make a great title for our piece.   The use of felt with the woven element also reflects our workshop shift into felt making. We decided to add some little felt people into the foreground holding hands in friendship.
