Glencraig, Co. Down, Northern Ireland

Camphill Community Glencraig's craft workshop, along with help from the Young Adult Group,  has enjoyed being busy creating their panel for the World Wide Weave. Focusing on the themes ‘Extraordinary Lives' and ‘Our Community's Integration with its Physical and Social Environment' our group thought of all the places that we like to visit, work in and be part of. Some of these are within Glencraig and some we share with our wider community such as Glencraig beach with its resident seals, Scrabo Tower and Country Park, Belfast City with its iconic yellow cranes at the Harland and Wolff shipyard, and the Mourne Mountains.

We all agreed that the wonderful thing about living in Northern Ireland is that we have such a diverse range of beautiful places to visit right on our doorstep so you never have to travel very far. It was a difficult task deciding which symbolic areas should feature on our panel... there certainly is a lot to look at. Our crafters felted most of the panel using merino wool, the background of the panel is a piece of weavery woven on the loom by Neil. We are all very excited and proud of our finished piece.
